Hooper's Lawn Care

Built operational infrastructure and business systems for a growing lawn care company preparing to scale through the season.

Adam keeps lawns, gardens, and outdoor spaces in shape for homeowners across Kingsville, Ontario.

Context

Adam Hooper was getting Hooper’s Lawn Care off the ground in Kingsville, Ontario. First-year operator, working through the gap between “I can do this work for money” and “I am running a business.” For most owner-operators starting up in the trades, the hardest part isn’t the work itself — it’s the financial side. Where money is actually coming from, where it’s going, and how to plan for the slow months when nothing’s growing.

Lawn care is a seasonal business. The spring rush has to fund the winter slowdown, and you can’t see that until you’ve put the whole year in front of you on a single page.

What I did

We built out a detailed cash flow chart together — month-by-month, mapping inflows and outflows so Adam could see the full year at once instead of just this week’s deposits. Pricing assumptions, fixed costs, the seasonal shape of the business, the cushion he’d need to carry from busy months into quiet ones. Once the numbers were laid out, the operating decisions stopped being guesses.

Beyond the chart itself, this was the kind of ongoing advisory most early operators actually need: someone in their corner who’d done this before. Questions answered as they came up, pricing decisions talked through, lessons shared from running my own businesses. Not a deck. Not a strategy document. Just being there when there was something to figure out.

Outcomes

Adam launched with a financial picture he could plan against, and the business is running.

“When I was getting Hooper’s Lawn Care off the ground, having the right guidance made a huge difference. Shane was absolutely critical in helping me during those early stages of starting my business.

One of the most valuable things he helped me with was creating a detailed cash flow chart. As a new business owner, understanding where money is coming in, where it’s going, and how to plan for the slow and busy seasons is incredibly important. His knowledge and willingness to walk me through that process gave me a much clearer picture of how to run my business sustainably.

Beyond that, he was always willing to answer questions, offer advice, and share insights from his own experience. That kind of support is invaluable when you’re building something from the ground up.

Thanks to his help, Hooper’s Lawn Care was able to start with a solid financial foundation. I’m extremely grateful for the time and effort he put into helping me succeed, and I would highly recommend Shane to anyone looking for knowledgeable, honest, and genuinely helpful business guidance.”
